Okay, as this is my very first post on my very first blog, you must be forgiving in the lack of my ability! :)
That being said, I wanted to share some pictures I took during the flooding that occured after some severe storms swept over the area on May 8. My children ended up in the hallway of their schools for approximately 2 hours while the tornado sirens kept going off.
Here is the storm summary from the National Weather Service website...
The spring-fed creek behind my place of employment, which usually has MAYBE 8 inches of water flowing through it...
These flood waters had mostly receded in a few hours, but creeks like this one flow into the Meramec which was well out of its banks by Saturday. I took these pictures at The Rafting Company just outside of Steelville, MO.
In this last picture, you can see how high the water got during last year's flood - the water mark is almost half-way up this building. The river is normally located just on the other side of the tree line.
For those of you who have been on me to get my rain gauge up, I PROMISE to TRY to get it up today! :)
Happy Mother's Day to all of you!!!!
Great blog Ami! Great pictures, too! You do a great job of telling me what it looks like down there, but a picture does it much more justice!
ReplyDeleteI think I remember a picture from last year that you took of that same bridge (one of the top pictures).
I look forward to reading more!!
Awesome new blog (and pics), Ami! I'm sorry but I usually ask this question just in case: May I add it to my blog list on my blog?
ReplyDeleteI'd love for any of you to add me to your blog lists! Just don't expect too much from me yet. I am still working on establishing internet access at home, so I don't have as much time to blog as I would like.
ReplyDeleteWxWatcher - I now understand what you were talking about with the spacing issue with IE. What a pain that was!!!
BTW - I finally got my rain gauge up yesterday!!!! Yay!!!
Happy Monday everyone!
WxWatcher - yes, that is the same bridge in one of my photos from last year's flooding. The water ended up OVER the bridge that time.
ReplyDeleteAwesome blog, Ami. I saw you working on this yesterday at Mom's and wondered what you were doing. :o) Love the pictures. Isn't Mother Nature amazing???

ReplyDeleteOSNW3...that sign says everything you need to know about people in Steelville. :o)
ReplyDeleteI am anxious to learn more about the Ozarks! My Grandfather In-law grew up in those parts. I'll find out exactly where from my wife...
ReplyDeleteWxWatcher, Steelville! :)
OSNW3 ~ God certainly knew what he was doing when creating the Ozarks. It is a marvelous place with a huge variety in weather, and some magnificant scenery!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and a great start with your blog Ami! I'll link you site over at WX Ranger NW.
ReplyDeleteI've been in and around your neck of the woods many time over the years.
Keep on posting...
Bob
I loved growing up there. It's one of those things in life that you didn't know what you had until you don't have it anymore! I grew up on a big cattle farm, and couldn't wait to get out and explore other places...now I would do anything to return.
ReplyDeleteDiddo that.
ReplyDeleteLeave it to Josh to pick up on that... BEER-ICE-SODA-FIRE
ReplyDeleteLol. Amazing flood shots!
