I was wrong about the "cooler" part of this week...that was just over the weekend I guess. The weather this week has been nothing less than absolutely beautiful! Highs have been in the low to mid 80's, and the sun has dominated the skies. It appears that the Memorial Day weekend will be just as nice, although we do have a chance of t-storms each day.
I am sharing some pictures of the creek behind my place of employment ~ for two reasons. I think the baby ducks are
so cute, and also so you all have an idea of what the creek normally looks like, and can compare that to the flood pictures I have shared.
I hope you all have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day weekend!! :o)
I miss living in the Ozarks...your creek is so clear! We have awesome topsoil up here north of the MO River, but it sure muddies up the rivers and creeks.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to get a comparison of what the creek is supposed to look like. Do you still have the picture from last spring when it flooded? Did it go over the bridge then?
It has been beautiful weather. We were at Six Flags yesterday with the 8th graders (for 8 hours!). The only thing that kept me sane was some good books and PERFECT weather. My station at home hit 91, but I think it tends to shoot a little high when we get into the mid-upper 80s.
We are looking forward to seeing you too!
This creek is wonderful. I think it is one of my favorite parts of working where I do. The spring is maybe 100 yards or so from this bridge (if that much), so walking across the bridge to my car in the afternoons usually has the same scent as Meramec Springs. I love it!
ReplyDeleteYes, the flooding last year DID cause the creek to be over this bridge. I'll see if I can dig up those photos and post them. The city had to replace the rail on the upper side of the bridge due to a HUGE tree limb getting in it and the current trying to pull it under the bridge. The rail was literally bent down below the bridge. The power of a swift current amazes me!
I wish I had a video I saw at this year's storm spotting class. The instructor had a video that showed a flood water rushing through a culvert (reminiscent of your recent flood photo). Nothing we haven't seen before. Over time however, you could see the new blacktop road on top begin to sink away from the side rails! Beginning from the right side, the road continued to wash away until there was a 30 - 40 foot gap in the road, with a gushing river below. It even washed away the embedded culvert down the gushing river below!! Simply amazing.
ReplyDeleteQuite a tranquil scene compared to the day of the flood, Ami. Thanks for sharing the comparison photos, brings the event full circle!
