Finally Back Up and Running

I finally have things set back up (my new rain gauge) and can blog about the beautiful weather here in Missouri.

Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous fall day.  It was a little chilly, but the sun beaming down was wonderful and quite warming.  Here are a few pictures from that day.

This is Toby, my Bull Mastiff/Golden Retriever/whatever else mix that I rescued from the pound several years ago.  He was just laying around enjoying the sun.

The trees are certainly past their peak color, but still very pretty.  :o)

Fall is certainly my favorite time of year!

I hope you all have a blessed week!

Update

Sorry I haven't had a recent blog to share with all of you.  I recently moved and my youngest son's puppy decided to use my rain gauge as a chew toy.  grrrrrrrrrrr

Hopefully I will be able to get a new one soon.  Until then, stay tuned to my little brother's blog (WxWatcher) for great info!!

Have a great weekend everyone!

If Only Every July Was Like This One!

Months like this one make me wish I had a weather station like my brother's (WxWatcher). I can't wait to see his summary for July and see what our temperatures looked like. It has felt more like Spring than Summer here in mid-MO this past month. My grass is a beautiful green without the help of a sprinkler, and my tomato plants haven't needed much watering at all. I was even able to sit on my porch swing a few evenings! (I have the mosquito bites to prove it!)

Rain Summary:

I had 13 days with at least a trace of precipitation, 11 were measurable amounts.

Total rain was 4.00"

Over half of my rain was received on two days: 1.12" on 7/12, and 1.18" on 7/17.

Longest dry spell was only 5 days - not bad for a Missouri July!!

A Couple More Pictures:
Here are a couple more pictures from our trip to the St. Louis Arch. They say you can see 30 miles from up top on a clear day. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day!!

I hope you all have a blessed weekend!! WxWatcher and our Dad are in Oshkosh at the air show...hopefully he will have some awesome pictures to post when they get home!!!

Unseasonably Nice for July!

The weather for the past couple of weeks has been absolutely beautiful! We've had highs in the 70's and lows down in the 50's for the past week or so. The temperatures are creeping back up to the 80's this week, so we'll be closer to "normal" soon.
Tim and I took the kids to the St. Louis Arch on Saturday. The picture above is them overlooking the Mississippi River, with the historic Eads Bridge in the background.
I hope you all are having a wonderful week!

International Space Station

Did any of you see the International Space Station go across the night sky last night??? Went across around 10:05pm (CST). Then the Russian space shuttle could be seen following it. It was one of the coolest things I have seen. Not that I would have been able to tell what I was looking at, but good 'ole Dave Murray (meteorologist for Fox 2 in St. Louis) was kind enough to let us know! :o)

The Space Station itself was much larger and brighter than the shuttle, but they were both easy to point out since they were moving so quickly.

It was a really cool event...I wish I had equipment that I could have taken pictures, but there is no way I could have shot that with my piddly one.

Hope you all had a wonderful Independence Day!!!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

At this station, I have already received 1.83" of rain in the past 36 hours. As I type this, it is still raining very heavily, and with the rain moving almost due east, you can see I have a lot more left to fall before it is over. My station has received much less rain than others in my area. A little to my south, there are reports of approximately 6 inches of rain!

Some of the river resorts in the Steelville area were beginning evacuation as of yesterday afternoon. The waters were starting to rise, and will get MUCH higher with the new rain as well as the high amounts of rain received up-river.

I will be sure to post pictures of any flooding I see. I'm bringing my camera to work with me today.

Hope you all have a wonderful (and dry!) Tuesday!! We have our first heat-advisories scheduled for later this week with forecasted temperatures in the 90's!

Stormy Weather

The visible Satellite image shows the storms that are currently "popping up" in the area. There has already been a possible tornado in Lebanon, MO (about 45 miles WSW of me). I'm sure it will get even more interesting before the day is over. I'll update tonight or tomorrow. Looks like we have a very active week ahead of us!

Memorial Day Weekend ~ too much rain!!!

I hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day weekend. Between the rain showers, mine was wonderful!! Over the past week, my station has recieved over 1.5" of rain! I'm ready for a hot & dry spell.

Saturday was a graduation party for my oldest nephew who just graduated high school! Congrats AJ!! I got to visit with my baby brother ~ WxWatcher. Here's a photo of the two of us...

On Sunday, the kids and Tim and I enjoyed a bbq at a friend's house. The kids enjoyed some time in the pool ...

.... then it started raining, but that wouldn't stop my youngest from enjoying some basketball!!

It rained off and on (mostly on!) the rest of the afternoon and evening. It was a good weekend nonetheless. I hope you all had some fun too.

I think this weekend, for us, will be hot and dry. I'm actually looking forward to that - getting kinda tired of the rain.

Have a great weekend everyone!!! :o)

Beautiful Weather

I was wrong about the "cooler" part of this week...that was just over the weekend I guess. The weather this week has been nothing less than absolutely beautiful! Highs have been in the low to mid 80's, and the sun has dominated the skies. It appears that the Memorial Day weekend will be just as nice, although we do have a chance of t-storms each day.

I am sharing some pictures of the creek behind my place of employment ~ for two reasons. I think the baby ducks are so cute, and also so you all have an idea of what the creek normally looks like, and can compare that to the flood pictures I have shared.

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day weekend!! :o)

After the Rain

As far as I know, there wasn't any major damage from last night's storm system. The lightning display was amazing, and rain at my station was .73". According to additional CoCoRaHS reports, the storms brought up to 4-5" in areas of Northern Missouri. Looks like we have cooler, but calmer, weather in store for the next few days. Maybe even a chance to get outside and enjoy God's beauty!

It appears the stormy weather pattern is over for now. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

Another Chance of Storms

The visible satellite image this morning shows the storms that are to my north, and a glimpse of the beautiful weather I am NOT enjoying from my desk at work!!! The temp when I got to work was already at 70, and with the plentiful sunshine, we should warm up rather nicely today. The down side to this is the chance of severe weather again this evening.

Hopefully, the storms will skip us and just allow us to enjoy the warmth of the day.

I hope you all have a wonderful Friday, and a great weekend! :o)

Current Radar/Severe Wx Possiblity

I admit that I don't know as much about weather as I would like...

However, check out this storm as it is threatening our area. I don't think I've ever seen a radar image quite like this one around here. It looks almost like a hurricane! Quite a spin in the atmosphere is all I can tell about it. I would love for any of you to further explain this to me!!

Here is the radar graphic as of a few minutes ago, courtesy of Weather Underground.

Here is a close-up of it as it is passing through my area, about 45 minutes after the first radar image.

Flooding 5/8/09

Okay, as this is my very first post on my very first blog, you must be forgiving in the lack of my ability! :)

That being said, I wanted to share some pictures I took during the flooding that occured after some severe storms swept over the area on May 8. My children ended up in the hallway of their schools for approximately 2 hours while the tornado sirens kept going off.

Here is the storm summary from the National Weather Service website...

The spring-fed creek behind my place of employment, which usually has MAYBE 8 inches of water flowing through it...

These flood waters had mostly receded in a few hours, but creeks like this one flow into the Meramec which was well out of its banks by Saturday. I took these pictures at The Rafting Company just outside of Steelville, MO.

In this last picture, you can see how high the water got during last year's flood - the water mark is almost half-way up this building. The river is normally located just on the other side of the tree line.
For those of you who have been on me to get my rain gauge up, I PROMISE to TRY to get it up today! :)
Happy Mother's Day to all of you!!!!
